The Sound of Canadian prairies (by Tobias and Violeta)

Especially for Edward who is in Canada right now we conceived this Canada-posting.
We would like to recommend a wonderful Canadian band: THE WEAKERTHANS from Winnipeg/Manitoba. The name sounds quite silly but their music is really great. Located somewhere between folk, singer-songwriter music and plain rock it impresses with highly intense and beautiful lyrics.
So far THE WEAKERTHANS released three records: FALLOW, LEFT AND LEAVING and RECONSTUCTION SITE. We are looking forward to a new release in summer which - for us - would be without much doubt a candidate for the record of the year.

John K. Samson who fronts the band as singer and writer is not only interested in music but in literature as well. He founded a non-profit publishing company and he was a jury-member of the last-year’s Canadian-wide book-price „Canada reads!“ (http://www.cbc.ca/canadareads/). And … his proposition won the contest! The book by Miriam Toews is titled A COMPLICATED KINDNESS and I (T) plans to read it these days.
In his spare time John K. Samson is an avid curler and bird watcher. Isn’t that nice?

And, dear Edward, enjoy your time in Canada!
